The Party Line Platform
85% of people who get fired don’t lose their jobs because of a lack of technical skills, they are fired because of a lack of people skills. Being able to communicate effectively is a pivotal ‘people skill,’ and is essential for building trust and respect between people. Communication can be verbal and non-verbal, with verbal (content and what you say) making up 7% and non-verbal (emotion and how we say things) accounting for 93% of communication. These numbers show it’s not really about what we say to people, rather the gold exists in how we say it. Communication isn’t all about talking; listening is just as important. Google’s Project Aristotle was ground-breaking in it research regarding great teams and guess what, communication and listening were the two principal traits that were most dominant amongst all of the best performing teams. We need to understand how to communicate through story and body language and how to listen with intent and enthusiasm, if we are to become highly effective organisations.
